The path leading through the medieval heart of the city and part of its greater centre offers visitors an insight into how modern architecture was entering the prominent historical environment (for example with several brilliant Functionalist realisations in náměstí Republiky / Republic Square and its vicinity) as well as how it helped form the character of the newer areas. The transformational and modernising ethos of the interwar building development is distinctly manifested in one of the key sections of the path – at the Radbuza River quay lined with prominent public buildings. Modernist architecture played a similar role in the area along the former Jungmannova, nowadays Americká třída / Americká Avenue, in particular in the spaces connected with the Wilson Bridge.
